Zinc Mining
Zinc ore is usually is found in association with those of lead, copper, gold, silver as well as other metals. Zinc is found in igneous and metamorphic rocks which usually are underground, so zinc mining is often underground but some new mines are of the open pit type.
Process Of Zinc Mining
At first, the zinc ore is crushed in the zinc mining equipment and the zinc ore is miledl
after it is moved to the crushing place. The raw material used for the production of zinc is zinc concentrate, which is the result of a flotation process after the ore has been mined and crushed.
The Ore is drilled and blasted in large volumes, transferred to underground rock crushers by large loaders and trucks before being hoisted to the surface in skips or driven directly to the surface by truck via a spiral access tunnel called a decline. At the surface, the ore is subjected to additional crushing and fine grinding. The flotation process is then used to separate the zinc and other valuable sulphide minerals from the waste rock particles or tailings to form a concentrate. The iron and zinc oxides that, after the crushing and roasting process,
have been reduced to powder form, are leached with dilute sulphuric acid. The solution is neutralised and the precipitates i.e. metallic co-products together with any unwanted contaminants, are removed by filtration.
